Turf Toe injury
Turf toe is hyperextension injury of gig toe joint. Commonly happens in soccer player specially who plays more on turfs. On the sole aspect of big toe joint the capsule is thick which maintains the joint stability. Turf toe can occur in any sports or activity when the forefoot is fixed on the ground, the heel raised, and a force pushes the big toe into hyperextension. This injury can be
Grade 1 : Only stretching of planter plate Grade 2 : Partial tear of planter plate Grade 3 : Total tear of planter platePain and inability to continue the sport is the main symptom. Following evaluation and initial first aid further imaging with MRI is required to understand the severity of injury and further treatment planning. Most of the injuries can be treated conservatively with immobilization big toe movement. Very few with large tear with frank instability may require plater plate repair. Or athlete whose symptom is not improving and unable perform his sports may require surgical intervention and repair of the injury.
