Lisfranc injury

Lisfranc injury

Lisfranc joint complex is the midfoot joint that formed between base of all metatarsals, cuneiform and cuboid. This joint complex is very important in maintaining the foot arch, transferring the body weight and muscle pull created by calf muscle from hind and midfoot to fore foot. These joints are held together by different ligament complex and bone configuration similarly like ‘ROMAN ARCH’ and maintains foot arch. Injury of this joint ranges from simple sprain and strain of these ligament to major fracture of these bone and dislocation o the joints. Injury usually happens twisting injury of foot when indirect rotational and axial loading force passes through hyper-plantarflexed forefoot. Obvious injury is diagnosed easily because of its clinical presentation. But for subtle injury it requires a high degree of suspicion and clinical acumen. Recommended treatment is always operative for obvious fracture. Even in most of the subtle injury also require operative treatment. These injuries require investigations more than x-ray, like MRI.
