Bunionet

Bunionet

It is a painful deformity of small toe presented as bony prominence or bump on the outside of the fifth toe. This is also known as tailor’s bunion. Rubbing between the prominence and tight shoe can cause a painful callus formation over outer surface of toe.

Most of the time it is caused due to faulty structures of the foot where 5th metatarsal protrude outwards and little toe moves inwards. This shit creates a bump. With time the tissue over it thickens due to rubbing with shoe and causes painful corns. Sometimes bony out growth happens at outer aspect of 5th metatarsal head.

Difficulty in wearing shoe, pain and obvious deformity of little toe.

If the condition is painful enough day to day footwear use you should visit a specialist foot and ankle surgeon.

After proper examination he may ask you to get an x-ray of your foot.

Treatment is conservative consisting of shoe modification, padding, icing and analgesic use. Sometimes local infiltration of steroid or PRP also being done. Surgical treatment is considered only when conservative measures fails to improve symptoms.
