Athlets Foot
It is a fungal infection of foot happens when foot remains wet and sweaty for long time within a tight-fitting shoe.
It is caused by the same type of fungus which cause ring worm. There are few risk factors that favours this infection to happen.
- Use of dump socks, tight fitting shoe
- Sharing matt, rugs, bath role, linen socks or shoes with someone who has this infection
- Walking bare footed at common space like community bath and shower, swimming pool, locker room
You will have red, itchy, scally lesion initially started between toes. Symptom becomes worst immediately after removing shoe and socks.
If your rash on foot does not heal within 2 weeks by home remedies and over the counter antifungal drug you should visit your doctor.
Your doctor will diagnose the condition by examination but may take a skin scrap for lab test to identify the fungus.
If the infection does not heal with over the counter antifungal medication your doctor may advice oral antifungal medication and other medication to sooth off your symptom.
You can prevent this from happening by following below precautions
- Keep your feet dry specially between toes
- Change your socks daily
- Use different shoe for alternate day
- Use light and well ventilated shoe
- Do not share your shoe and socks
- Avoid walking bare footed at common space
- If you are a prolong shoe user then treat your feet with antifungal powder
